This week's installment in the world of the Six Sentence Café is a bit special. It happens to be the night of the poetry slam, my 100th post on this blog, and the first time in a very long while that I've added a recording to one of my poems (and kept it as natural as possible)... aaaaand all that on the last free week before school! YAY!
I wanted to celebrate this tiny milestone with both of the communities that have inspired me to keep writing and sharing my creative work with the world—not only by providing the prompts, but by reading and sharing their own stories and poetry, too... Truly, I am so fricken' grateful... and participating in these managed to pull me out of what one would call a-looming-black-hole-of-depression-brewing.
Thank you both for existing, to be part of you both—sixes for awhile now and dVerse just recently—means more to me than I could ever put into words...
The host for the sixes is Denise and you can check out all the other entries of some very talented writers at the link-up (including the slam night).
My other favorite link-ups happen back at dVerse for the Open Link Nights but I also love the Prosery and Poetics. Please do check them out as there are some really cool poets back there!
the Six Sentence Café & Bistro #13
“Oh fuck, that's a lot…” the Nervous Poet covered her mouth—her heart pounding in her eardrums and sweat building a home in her palms—remaining frozen for what seemed to be quite-a-fricken'-while…
They say that a lady shall not use the word fuck
and that a poet should get their point across
with as little lines as humanly fricken' possible.
But what is one supposed to do,
when they don't fit into one of those pretty little boxes?
You know they also say that we are all made of the same stuff…
So tell me why,
when I am out there,
I don't fucking feel it?
Heading for one of those private booths, she slumped into the seat—hoping that nobody noticed her knees betray her—and gave the not-just-another-fancy-bouncer and the tall-as-heck-dude a wry smile.

There's more of my work:
All of the six-sentence stories.
The Nervous Poet Entries for the SSC&B.
There is also a page for all of the poetry.
More personal entries can be found at the Blog.
The IT studies blog in Estonian for a course at the university.
the Band "Chaos in Spring" is on YouTube, Spotify and other streaming services.
I love the thought of using the right words when they are needed. (and a lot of things are fucked up right now)
Thank you, and yes-yes they seem to be… In a way…
Fuck yeah, Aurelia!!
This one oozes film noir character! I can already see the scene…
From a not-just-another-fancy-bouncer to a not- nervous-poet-anymore: Brava 👏
Congrats for the 100th post… here’s to many more.
And, Reelika… don’t forget: you enrich others in ways you may never know… so, thank you, too.
Now… what can the Gatekeeper bring you to drink as you watch the rest of the slam poetry?
Thank you Nick!
I love noir and sometimes it oozes through 😂. And thank you again for the lovely comments!
Umm, as for a drink… I dunno… If I remember correctly I have made her a wine lover that also downed some deadly mixture of tequila and vodka…
Umm. Cranberry juice?
Nicely read poem.
Thank you Frank! I already listened to yours too… You should do it more, it’s fun to hear others read their creations too …
I will be back for another round and to leave comments soon!
Nice to hear you read your poem, Reelika. “We’re all made of the same stuff.” But we’ve been taught that little girls are “sugar and spice and everything nice” and little boys are made of “snakes and snails and puppy dog tails.” It gets easier with practice to get out there.
Thank you! Am glad you enjoyed it and yes, it does get easier but now as am older I don’t even really want to 😂. But Aurelia is young and learning to be around people..
a nod and an arched eyebrow leashing a grin trying to run and become a smile.
good shit.
(and total props for the full-on commit not merely to the Poetry Slam but also to go all in-the-ears-of-your-Readers audio.)
muy coolito
glad you decided to hang out at the SSC&B
Thank you, and gosh am I glad you invited me…
Amazing. Just (in as few words as possible) amazing.
Aww, thank you so much! Or “tysm” if we were to use as little words and letters as possible 😀
Fabulous, fabulous!! More… please! Now more applause… I’ve brought a couple of glasses and a nice concoction in a jug, cheers!
Cheers!
Brilliant, Reelika, loved hearing you read it!
Thank you so much Keith!
Sometimes, only the choicest of words will do! And this world is so fucked up right now, it’s the only word that will do. Love your poetry!
Thank you so much, and yeah it kinda is and I think it gets worse before it gets better…
“Fuck” is appropriate for any and all occasions, especially if it’s how you really feel. Bombs away, Babe, and my but you have a slammin’ fine reading voice as well!
🫢
Thank you so much and I actually kinda missed reading my things but am scared I won’t have much time to do it again in a long time… But we will see… Thank you again!
A powerful, punchy poem and a brilliant reading, Reelika! Somehow that’s exactly how I expected you to sound? Which sounds strange but it’s true! 🙂
Oo. Really? Next time I should maybe do it in the morning to have a wow effect lol 😀. I legit sound like a dude right now lol
But thank you so much!
Those final lines, yes I have felt it…maybe everybody does, at times. Loved listening the poem.
I guess it is true and fore some more than others. Am happy you enjoyed listening to it.
I love that you read Aurelia’s poem for us. It was fucking perfect opening a window for a more personal view of our Nervous Poet (no one noticed her knees betray her).
Borrowing Liz’s comment – you do have “a slammin’ fine reading voice”.
Congratulations on 100 posts, Reelika! A milestone I hope is repeated often!
Thank you Denise. Hopefully there will be more to come, more hundreds and more occasions to record my voice. Take care!
Out of the box and written from the hesrt
Thanks for dropping by my blog
Much love
You are welcome, and thank you too!
You did it! And extremely well. There are times when such a word is needed as nothing else expresses what you mean. My sweet, gentle grandmother used the word once in her lifetime, and my grandfather sat up and took notice he could push her too far. Because of her example, I try to save the words for times when there is not another word to get it across, but that is just me.
Aww. Thank you so much, and grandma had a point.
We are dealing with a case where a 15-year-old is being victimised by the political machinery for using cuss words.
Ooh. But cusswords are not what is wrong with this world, it’s what makes you use them… More often so…
Thank you for dropping by Reena, your entry at the dVerse OLN was so good! Seriously.
The character in the poem is conjured, completely. Her attitude, a combination of a lack of confidence, lassitude and a sprinkling of hope at the end, is palpable. Nice job!
Thank you so-so much
