I was editing this with Sonia by Mirar blasting in my ears... contrary to popular belief about music as such, it calms my brain and makes me able to think on a few continuous threads instead of a hundred... if it makes sense... I mean.. it helps me structure my naturally chaotic mind... which shows in writing...
Also my love for ellipses and em-dashes in seemingly awkward places... I think there is a connection between my love for dramatic and technical music that changes directions and builds tension and momentum... with many interruptions... and doesn't always fully release the tension either...
Also, as always, Denise, as the host for the six sentence story hops, provided us with the weekly prompt word—SLIP—and all the other participants' stories can be accessed through the link-up.
the Six Sentence Café & Bistro #10
"Five more minutes!" the Nervous Poet yelled at her phone as if it were her mother waking her up for school again—well, you wouldn't be surprised, considering that her creativity had peaked with wine and the obnoxiously loud music drowning out the downstairs neighbours' get-together.
The situation was even more dire—considering her annual leave was ending—while trying to fall asleep, her mind ran in circles around the day to come: don't forget to tie up your hair, remove all of your piercings, say hello to everyone, use the cheap whiskey for tiramisu, less wine in the bolognese, smaller slices of bread, less salmon on the salad, and so on...
Also, we are about to witness the overwhelming urge for an author to put their characters through what one would call... the best day ever, well... as she got off the bus—a pigeon—and get this—shat on her head... but there was no time to tally the misfortunes; her shift would begin in fifteen minutes, so she hurried inside, only to be stopped by her manager.
"Aurelia, could you please accompany me to my office?" he said while beckoning her to follow, and once they had closed the door behind them he continued: "As you know, we are not doing very well lately, I'm..."
"Are you giving me the pink slip... but... I have been working here for five years... I... I left everything behind to relocate here... why... did I... do something wrong?" her voice cracking further with every question as the manager slid the paper across the desk and muttered, "I'm sorry," unable to look her in the eyes as he left.
Aurelia walked out of the building in the direction of the Six Sentence Café, thinking: OK, fine, shit happens, but at least now, perhaps I can fully focus on getting my book ready; the Café itself was quite lively as she walked toward the bar and ordered "something with tequila, vodka and absinthe," noticing the red-haired figure approaching her, and shortly after, deciding to join her.
