This week's thankful is a little different and has sections some of you may want to skip... but perhaps, the technical parts... can be helpful for some... Also, reading countless discussions on Threads and X about proving authorship made me wanna write about a few things, and also why I created this blog... and I will try to answer a question I got about it in a way I feel comfortable (10th... question itself I got a few weeks ago and I honestly thought about not answering it at all).
You can join the hop or read through what others wrote at the link-up.
Ten Thing of Thankful #15
First—had time to read blogs.
And leave some comments too; I am still not done snooping around. I usually don't comment because I'm scared that people will think they owe me that engagement, but nah, I do it because I want to.
Second—Blog Hops
dVerse and the Six Sentence Crowd, to be exact... I think that writing for prompts helps me become a better writer, and reading so many other authors' works does the same.
Third—Bought a New Diary
I don't know if I'm the only one who prefers a physical diary and Post-it notes for time management. School begins soon, and it means I will be rather busy...
I will keep writing for the sixes and TToT and maybe link up some of my old poetry at OLN, but with school I'm just not physically and mentally able to write as much... It takes me three to four days to write and edit a single six already with the day in-between to distance myself from the story.
I may also be slower to read others' work, so I will keep it simple starting from September.
Fourth—Buffer
School means I probably won't be as active on my social media either.
Buffer allows me to schedule posts for three platforms for free. I used to use Meta Business Suite for Instagram, Facebook, and Threads, but I prefer Buffer. Since I won't have much time to think of content, I'm using one and the same template for all of them—just so my social media won't die...
Fifth—Git and GitHub
This week I set up Git version control for my writing after losing Obsidian's local history (I managed to accidentally open my vault under a new profile after changing settings to how long it should keep my history).
I set Git up in a way that I can also work on different machines without worrying about having history on only one PC or having problems with different versions (I have a single working file so it's essential for me). Personally I have it logging (commit and push) my changes after every five minutes and kept indefinitely while the local Obsidian takes a snapshot after two minutes and is kept for a year...
I did use cloud syncing before... But with Insync (works well on Linux if you want the fancy UI), I often had issues if I didn't wait for it to sync long enough before switching the device... so now it only backs up the latest versions of my writing from my laptop without the git version-history itself.
Sixth—The EU Passed a New Regulation for AI-Created Work
The posts on socials where people say if you use any form of AI, then you are not a writer make me wanna shut up indefinitely but...
as someone who uses AI in my process for mechanical editing... and metas... and constantly gets attacked for it if I dare say it out loud... it may be surprising... but I still feel that the regulations are long overdue for those who present stolen or generated work as their own....
While AI doesn't write or take part in planning my work on my blog, I did have a lot of fun with it during my hiatus while writing privately to a folder on my laptop... there, it had much more influence over grammar and word choice than in the work I publish... I absolutely despise Grammarly or anything that highlights parts of my writing/changes it as I am writing... so the words on my blog are my own—conscious—choices...
and that is also why I set up redundant version history and backups... because the panic on Threads about proving authorship is very fucking contagious...
Seventh—Suno Has to Also Pay for Their Crimes
I use SUNO to create backing tracks for when I am practicing singing... But the issue was with them using copyrighted material for training... That is also why I have not published anything new in the area of singing, as my boyfriend who wrote the two songs up on streaming services, has a creative block and a lot of work...
Eight—Clean home
I just finished mopping my floors before sitting down to write.
Ninth—Music.
This is Playing atm: Blastbeat Falafel (feat. Trey Spruance, Mr. Bungle & Secret Chiefs 3) by Igorrr
Tenth—Found some traces of my old writing.
The same concerns made me search the internet archives... I found some things from the 2010–2020 time period, which I had mostly wiped because I wanted to distance my new blog and identity from my old one...
Partly because instead of being a regular teenager writing fanfiction about Draco Malfoy or something, I wrote my pieces about someone very real (a human made of flesh and blood). After deciding to slap my own name on my work, I didn't want to be known or addressed as that fanfiction author anymore—or cause any issues or discomfort to real people...
…because the anonymity of my then pen name also allowed me to write much more freely about other parts of my life, including the therapy for CPTSD, and the events that had led me there… or the uncertainty that came with the plethora of labels, opinions, and diagnoses I received over the years of seeing many different doctors… starting with neurosis at the age of three… then simply being the neurospicy, hyperactive child… followed by a period where Borderline Personality Disorder was considered… and finally… in my early twenties… one doctor insisting it was untreated ADHD… only for me to receive a Bipolar Disorder diagnosis (which those close to me don't believe) while landing myself inpatient half a year later, alongside an MRI scan showing structural changes and damage to parts of my brain… which, as you can imagine… made me feel very hopeless and depressed… but also became fuel for my writing at the time.
...point is... my old blog belonged to a very painful chapter of my life that I needed to leave behind... not because I regret writing about it or the fanfiction parts of it... but because I needed a fresh start... to heal and create a life worth living... also am still thankful for it because it made me read and write... if it wasn't for that period in my life I wouldn't be a writer...
And... it was fun finding a few poems from that time that people had reblogged... because, as painful and as honest as my old writing was... it is still a part of me... and of my evolution as both a writer and a human.

There's more of my work:

There is also a page for all of the poetry.

The IT studies blog in Estonian for a course at the university.
the Band "Chaos in Spring" is on YouTube, Spotify and other streaming services.
I really like your list for today 👍 I especially like the blog hop thing where we can become a better writer. Training AI with copyrighted stuff is unethical.
You mentioned Git, GitHub, and Linux. I’m a tech-savvy person who’s been using Linux since like more than a decade ago, and I’m still using it both on my old Dell computer and on a virtual machine on my ASUS laptop. I maintain Git version control for my tech projects, and I host my DokuWiki on my old computer for internal notes. Of course, I have GitHub that hosts my public projects!
I’m also so glad you found traces of your old writing.
Thank you so much for the comment. Training AI on stolen work needs to stop… Also am studying IT systems administration and networking… I have been a Linux user since Ubuntu with 12.04 … Currently running fedora on my laptop and Bazzite for gaming rig I built with my own two hands.
I think you’re doing fine now. Those professionals are always diagnosing one thing or another. You are the best person to know yourself.
