a POEM IN SIX #5 | Prompt Word: HOLLOW

Decorative title page for "Poetry Without Margins" featuring a vintage paper background, a flying raven, mauve flowers, handwritten poetry, and a small skull illustration.

Oh, look at the irony! I was just saying in my TToT that I had no time to write poetry and had absolutely no idea what to write for the Sixes this week… I also said I will write tomorrow... Well, what happened is that I opened the link-up form and saw the prompt word that Denise had given us this week, lol.

Well, hollow to me seems like something, something empty, something void of life, something grey, something colourless… you get the gist…

So, this is my entry this week…

Oh, and check out all the other entries—by some super cool authors by the way—at the link-up.

HOLLOW — a Six Sentence Poem

She had been told enough times in her life
that she reminded people of a bag of tricks mixed with treats
to know that she wasn't easy to swallow—
yet she kept giving bits of herself away for free…

A bit of paint from the tips of her fingers
on the collar of his shirt:

blue and green,
sometimes yellow,
purple,
lilac,
pink,
or black…

Red and bold—
if she felt generous enough
to let him have a bit of her favorite lipstick too…

Sometimes,
she would hand him a bit of poetry—
still oozing from being seen
by the eyes of another soul
just a bit too early—
in a message
at 4 a.m.…

Just a bit of honesty,
a bit of irony,
a bit of vulnerability—
maybe, even words
that are a bit too drunk—
words—
reeking of,
a bit of affection.

Because the people who did not
embrace
a little crazy,
a little over the top,
a little bit of colour,
a little bit of dramatic expression,
reminded her of hollow trees.
