Ten Thing of Thankful #26

First — Ten Things of Thankful.

As you probably noticed, there is a fancy new widget at the top of this post… Well, It seems that I have been invited to become one of the co-hostinae of this super awesome blog hop with a super awesome community.

This hop has compelled me to look at my own life, no matter how hectic or chaotic it has been during the week, and find something in it to be grateful for. It really does benefit one in ways that I never imagined. So, please do check out other participants and perhaps consider participating too, to see if you enjoy it as much as I do.

Second — Six Sentence Crowd

I actually started writing for this blog hop back in 2022, with a big hiatus in between, where all my posts were scheduled just to look like I'm active, lol… While wanting to write stories and be read is probably the sole reason I began participating in it, there is another—much bigger—reason to take part in something like this… and it is the feel of a community like in the old LiveJournal, WordPress.com, and Blogspot days…

While social media was supposed to connect people, to me, it feels that nothing connects people more than the "old-school" blogosphere itself.

Third — dVerse

I didn't think my old poetry was any good, but it does show a part of me and my growth as a person and as a writer and it is so cool to hear other OLN participants thoughts on it... The first part of these poems I will continue not to change the wording. I have played with the formatting a bit... However I did update the reflection part a bit.

Fourth — Music.

I'm listening to Another One and Everybody Knows by Night Club while formatting the post.

Fifth — My Hosting.

As some of you know, there have been some vulnerabilities and troubles regarding PHP… As someone who is studying system administration, I am embarrassed to say that I had even forgotten that I was running PHP 8.2, which reaches end of life at the end of this year. But at least my hosting took care of the security patch while I just upgraded my PHP version with a single click…

Sixth — Web Technologies Course.

As mad as I was the other day at the last assignment, it actually—together with changing the PHP version on my blog—made me go through every single snippet and custom code in my inventory and look at whether I need it now or not, and also rewrite some of them.

As you may have noticed, I did add some archives and easier navigation to my site and tried to make it more homey, but the bottom of the iceberg was me rewriting parts of my custom code and then upgrading things.

I still have some errors and quirks I have to go through, but since it is a personal site, I'm doing it as I have time, as I am not entirely sure yet how to fix all of them in the most elegant and easy to manage ways. This is also why I'm happy for the course and the fact that I own a personally managed WordPress installation (hosting is only responsible for the server itself), which has taught me more than any course can.

P.S. I am also aware that my mailing list did not send the campaign this morning. I'm keeping an eye on it, and I've got a feeling that the issue was not related to my personal configuration at the moment.

Seventh — I'm Home Tonight.

Even if it seems that some of my responsibilities are on fire and demanding my attention, I took today off from university, and I have been taking some medication and such, so I feel a bit better, and I will start doing everything again tomorrow.

Eighth — My Boyfriend.

I told him I'm going to the store, but since I have been feeling a bit like I'm getting sick (like when it begins), and it is freezing and rainy outside, he drove me… Even if the store is like five minutes from home by foot and I usually do it alone, he has been doing it with me for past weeks and carrying my bags and helping me decide on WHICH CHEESE WE BUY THIS TIME, lol.

Ninth — My Second Family Got Back Safely.

They were on a road trip around Europe during those massive riots, and to top it all off, in Poland, they woke up to the sirens blaring on the same day when one of the drones hit a car on the street. It is awkward to think that such things go on around the world and so close to home while I am drinking my morning coffee and cursing at my homework.

Tenth — They Brought Me Sweets.

One thing about me: I cannot contain myself around chocolate, and while I did bring the overseas beer home to share with my boyfriend… the chocolate did not survive even half an hour around me. Luckily, he doesn't eat sweets at the moment, as he has had issues with his teeth ever since the surgery and is currently getting them fixed but I still feel so guilty.

Congratulations on becoming one of the co-hostinae, Reelika! I’m really so happy for you! I indeed enjoy the “Ten Things of Thankful” blog hop. Also, it’s a great move that you’ve updated PHP to the latest version with all the security fixes needed for the recently-discovered vulnerability.

If you have noticed, I’ve started participating in the dVerse OLN and I also enjoyed it.

As for the social media, I never felt the kind of connection that WordPress blogs gave me; when I use my social media (which I seldom do nowadays as I have no time for reels and stuff), the chances for connection are very low.

Yes. And now imagine all these people who are responsible for patching and all. They deserve a loud applause and well, one day, I will be one of these people. Hopefully. Though it is a cluster*** how the information about the vulnerabilities of PHP and btw Linux kernel got leaked. Uuf.

And dVerse is awesome, welcome abroad, I haven’t yet read your entry…

About the social media… I feel that way too…
