Six-Sentence Story #6 (With Prompt Word FLAG)

Six-Sentence Story banner featuring a vintage quill and ink bottle above the title on a parchment-style background with the website ofstardustandthebeasts.com.

Yet another week has passed. If I’m honest, I’m always waiting for the Thursday blog hops so I can share my Six-Sentence Story of the week and read others and get out of my studies for a little bit (which I love but I need something more to life).

Musically, I’ve been stuck on yet another album this whole week—Masochist by Night Club; the song Fatal Crush has been on repeat a lot and is also currently playing.

The weekly writing challenge is hosted by GirlieOnTheEdge, and you can find links to other participants’ work through the link-up. Please do check out the others too, there are a lot of great writers on this hop.

Rules of the hop:

Write 6 sentences. No more. No less.
Use the current week’s prompt word.
The link is live from Wednesday at 6:00 PM until late Saturday night.
Spread the word and support fellow writers!

PROMPT WORD: FLAG

Six-Sentence Story - Logic Behind a Feeling

“No, no, no—that doesn’t feel right,” Ellie screams at her screen, pressing the backspace harder than needed at the lines: it may have been him, it may have been me, true, false, false, true, true, true, false.

It is as if her mind itself is experiencing a syntax error, trying to find the logic behind her emotion—true or false—ringing in her ears as she fights the lump in her chest, her heartbeat irregular, as if it were trying to catch her attention.

After a few sips of coffee, she writes the lines: maybe he is true and I am false, maybe it is the other way around, maybe we were never meant to fit, maybe what I feel is not meant to be.

But what her words fail to grasp is that life is not built on Boolean logic, and you cannot flag a feeling.

Because between the ones and zeroes exists a slit of space, a superposition where true and false can coexist.

Yes, between the night and the day exists a space that writers try to put into words, painters onto canvas, musicians into sound, and science to understand.

Perhaps I could invite you to read more of my work:

If you like short stories I have them scooped up into one category (including the six-sentence stories).

Or perhaps I could interest you in poetry and refections or something more personal like the Blog.

I also happen to own an IT studies blog in Estonian and "Chaos in Spring" can be listened to on YouTubeSpotify and other streaming services.

Ten Thing of Thankful #1 – Another Blog Hop

Since my blog and creative work often lean toward the dark and gloomy, I thought this blog hop might be a lovely chance to show, and also remind myself, that there are still things to be grateful for. So this is my very first entry for the Ten Thing of Thankful (TToT)...

Six-Sentence Story #5 (With Prompt Word SHUFFLE)

This week’s blog hop and six-sentence story was one I felt quite hesitant about, because every time I reread it, it somehow manages to become more and more depressive. I’m not entirely sure why—maybe it comes from writing for and while loops in university to the point...

Six-Sentence Story #4 (With Prompt Word RELAY)

This week’s prompt word for the six-sentence story in our community of blog hoppers was really fun to work with. Over time, I had several different ideas circling in my head on how to use it and make the story a bit different from what I usually write. I wanted...

Six-Sentence Story #3 (With Prompt Word – order)

For some reason, I’ve always liked to step in and out of characters when I write. I’ve also noticed something a bit strange about my process in the weekly six-sentence story blog hops: I tend to write the sentence with the prompt word first and then build the rest of...

Poetry On the margins of the Second Draft #2

I have wanted to do this for a while—try something like hybrid writing and mix poetry with reflection. Writing about my day in a regular blog format would probably bore me—and my readers (you are awesome, by the way!). So this time I am slightly opening the door to...

Six-Sentence Story #2 (With Prompt Word)

I wanted to post this one warm and raw. This week’s six-sentence story feels more like a poem, and I was afraid that if I sat with it any longer, I’d over-refine it into something it isn’t. So it’s a bit of a crossbreed... an experiment for the blog hop or something...

Six-Sentence Story #1 (with prompt word)

It seems I had forgotten how the weekly six-sentence story prompts work… Last week, I thought I was late for the blog hop and ended up posting with the same prompt word as this time. The story itself can be found here. The weekly writing challenge is hosted by...

Six-Sentence Story #0 (with prompt word)

On a Sunday evening I found myself thinking that I had been wanting to return to my blog, and also to writing prompts again. Unfortunately the link-up for the Six-Sentence Story ends on Saturday evening, so I was a little late for the blog hop part. Still, I wrote...

Poetry On the margins of the Second Draft #1

I have not been actively posting poetry or anything for a while, partly because of time, but mostly because I think something else is happening. Something deeper and more transformative within myself… I feel like I’ve reached a point in life where my own thoughts are...

Reelika, your 6th sentence captures the essence of what art ( among other fields – can only speak as an artist) journeys to discover in those unexplored topographies.

friend of mine once (misquoted) ‘I think, therefore I scream’.

How un-natural (and) terrible and wonderful* a state some find themselves trapped in. Not being actual words, screams (of pain) and moans (of pleasure) are not easily assembled from a box of syllables and phonemes according to a pre-printed instructions sheet.

It has been said that creativity manifests three ways: to simply demand attention, to find novel ways to re-assemble parts well-worn and the last (and best) to bring into being something that did not already exist.

    Good Six, yo

*the core meaning of the word, not the embroidered wall-hanging, ‘to be filled with wonder’

Thank you so much Clark and that screaming and moaning part is actually true—I think.

Am glad you liked it too :).
