Short story in my “Elves and Fantasy” section. The story is about a woman, who can not fathom the proposal Leoric has made in the post “Rendezvous pt. II (Margot)”, the story itself begins with “Rendezvous pt. I (Margot)”. She is the lover. The series are my first go at fantasy fiction ever.

I use the help of AI for punctuation (I do change some things) and the help of Grammarly to do my own edits, while they don’t replace editors I do have to make do with free-to-use tools currently.

Fantasy Fiction – the Lover (Rebecca)

„Dear Leoric”

I am writing to you out of concern for your well-being. After all, I think you have lost a marble or two. Why else would you wed a woman whose name is tarnished, whose family reputation has forever been branded, and who doesn’t know the ways of the earth?

How you managed to present yourself as a man of the Three Gods eludes me. Why would you take on an occupation as a joker just to wed someone?

After all, you know of my feelings for you. I know you better than anyone. You would never wager love for gold. This madness must come to an end; surely it is just another fleeting admiration of someone’s beauty. After all, you are not the most righteous man in this town.

Women know you well, but you see, I still love you. Do you remember when we were kids, we dreamed of wandering the worlds together, of wielding the weapon of the earth? Death and life itself would have shuddered under our presence. How could you have chosen this harlot, this woman who bears a child that will never be worth anything? This woman who doesn’t know our ways? Please reconsider.

„Dear Leoric”

I cannot fathom why you have grown cold towards me. Don’t I deserve a reply from you? Haven’t I loved you ever since we were young? Why are you courting this bloody excuse of a woman? Why would you ever allow another man’s blood into your domain?

Please don’t do such an injustice to your status and your name. What would your poor mama say if she were here? Your father must truly be rolling over in his grave and haunting you in your dreams. You know well that we were made to be wed. Our families formed a pact long before we were even conceived. How can you disrespect the wishes of the dead?

I still haven’t received a reply from you, and I know for a fact that you were in the castle when I stood there in the rain behind the gates that remained shut. How could you dismiss me like that? Has this harlot really taken the last of your senses? What does a stranger have that I, a lady who promised to be your wife-in-law and who has known you since birth, do not? What does a worshipper of the Three Gods know of our lives? Or are you considering their faith now too?

Leoric, please, I beg you, don’t you have any heart left for the one who loves you the most?
