OLN #407 (dVerse poetry-hop)

Vintage-style open book illustration featuring handwritten poetry, ink splatters, a black cat, and a raven, representing a dVerse OLN poetry blog-hop

This is my first time participating in a blog-hop for poetry.

Be sure to visit the dVerse Poets Pub page and other participants work in the linkup.

Soft Violence - for the Open Link Night #407

My soul craves the soft violence
of devouring poems,

one by one
the vulture,
never full.

Words like daggers,
swallowed whole,
and my throat
reeks
of rotten flesh.

But nothing compares
to the act of constructing one yourself.

Purgatory

my mouth full of flies,
the words keep dripping,
one by one,
down my neck

drip,

drip,

drip,
drip,

drip

across my bosom,

a splattered poem,

like coffee stains
on my favorite book.

Vintage open book illustration with handwritten poetry, ink splatters, a raven, and a cat beside skulls and a candle, saying thank you for your time.

Perhaps I could invite you to read more of my work:

If you like short stories I have them scooped up into one category (including the six-sentence stories).

Or perhaps I could interest you in poetry and refections or something more personal like the Blog.

I also happen to own an IT studies blog in Estonian and "Chaos in Spring" can be listened to on YouTubeSpotify and other streaming services.

Six-Sentence Story #20 (Prompt Word: PUZZLE)

Another week has passed again, and it’s time for a new six-sentence story. This week I did something a bit different… Even if, in my case, the first person was solely used because the third person took away from the story, I think it is something a lot of us can...

Six-Sentence Story #19 (Prompt Word: SIGNAL)

Hello everyone! Another week has passed, and it's time to share my six-sentence story for the lovely blog hop hosted by GirlieOnTheEdge . I absolutely love this community and the challenge of having only six sentences while also incorporating a prompt word! Musically,...

Ten Thing of Thankful #3 – Another Blog Hop

This week went by so fast I didn’t even think of the ten thing of thankful blog hop while living through it. It felt as if I blinked, and it was already gone. The other hoppers’ posts of the week can be read here. Be sure to check them out at this blog hop is the most...

Six-Sentence Story #18 (Prompt Word: HELP)

Yet another week has passed, and it’s time to share another six-sentence story. However, this week’s prompt word made me derail into a psychologically dark theme. So, a small disclaimer before I let you read: if you are someone who may be triggered by domestic abuse...

Poetry On the margins of the Second Draft #3

The pieces here aren’t really poems—I’m not doing as much poetry or reflection as I am just… writing. The Second Margins were meant to be more of a messy, experimental corner of my blog—something that might ignite my imagination and lead me back to poetry. However, if...

Ten Thing of Thankful #2 – Another Blog Hop

Another week has passed, and it’s time for my second entry in the Ten Thing of Thankful (TToT) blog hop. It has been an interesting and very tiring week, but now I’ll try to find ten things I was grateful for and also please do check out the others and the hosts at...

Six-Sentence Story #17 (Prompt Word: FLAG)

Yet another week has passed. If I’m honest, I’m always waiting for the Thursday blog hops so I can share my Six-Sentence Story of the week and read others and get out of my studies for a little bit (which I love but I need something more to life). Musically, I’ve been...

Ten Thing of Thankful #1 – Another Blog Hop

Since my blog and creative work often lean toward the dark and gloomy, I thought this blog hop might be a lovely chance to show, and also remind myself, that there are still things to be grateful for. So this is my very first entry for the Ten Thing of Thankful (TToT)...

Six-Sentence Story #16 (Prompt Word: SHUFFLE)

This week’s blog hop and six-sentence story was one I felt quite hesitant about, because every time I reread it, it somehow manages to become more and more depressive. I’m not entirely sure why—maybe it comes from writing for and while loops in university to the point...

oh that does seem to be the way the poems come sometimes. i read this “ But nothing compares
to the act of constructing one yourself.”
not as the construction being a poem, but as constructing a ‘yourself’

      Thank you for the comment!

I think that on the construction part both can be simultaneously true too…

Welcome to the dVerse Poets Pub, Reelika, I hope you become a regular participant. This is a fabulous extended metaphor. I’ve had a few splattered poems myself – and I am very careful with my favourite books!

Thank you for the comment and I hope to participate more for sure.

Am glad you liked the metaphor and funny story about my favourite book, it’s old and second hand and has stains on it.

      Doesn’t ruin the story though.

So glad to see you for the first time participating, and I can just mirror what you say. I love reading poetry (especially the one online). If you have time to particpate to the online version on Saturday it would be great to see you there.

Thank you for the comment and am happy to be here too, so much great poems to read …

I will consider participating in more after the semester in uni is over, so probably not this Saturday but I think it could be lovely.

I like what you have to say about “construction.” It is a kind of purgatory and the release is so sweet when the poem is complete.

Thank you so much for reading and commenting.

Yes, it feels amazing when you finally have a finished piece.

The event of pouring the thought and emotion into one is a release of a kind

and then when the construction is done… Ahh…

My soul craves the soft violence
    of devouring poems,

Welcome unto the fray Reelika. The opening itself is an attraction of being humorous but sounding hard. It creates a balance!
Wonderful write Ma’am! Thanks for looking me up!
