And this week I learned that even if I try to write prose, it doesn't resemble conventional prose. Eugh. But the dVerse Prosery prompt gave me an idea, so I just went with the creative flow... thanks dVerse... for giving me the juices on this rainy day.
All the other participants' entries can be read at the link-up.
The line I had to use in my prose (up to 144 words) was "I am the creature who smells your darkest thoughts" from Jaguar Song. The entire piece can be accessed here.
I Know What You Are
As you lie there motionless with limbs of stone, praying to the gods that went deaf after you spilled your guts... I am the presence that listens, the one that spits back, the thing that stayed... the vengeful echo of your innermost secrets... Oh yes, my dear, I am the creature who smells your darkest thoughts, and I am not scared to dissect your mind like a damned frog on a table and press the innards against your face: "Look, look what you have done, and repent." And you may drown your sins in the bottle and pop a Sevredol for the heartache, but I know what lies within... Tch. My poor child, I can taste the lust, the greed, and the ever-growing obsession in your cold sweat. Because I do know what you desire, and I know why it drives you fucking mad.

An intriguing piece. I’m happy you joined in. The line that jumped out to me was “I am not scared to dissect your mind like a damned frog on a table and press the innards against your face: ”
I wonder what this person desires and is it a creature, god, or their own mind speaking?
Thank you so much.
As with many pieces, I did have an idea where I wanted it to go… I began by writing about sleep paralysis… but somehow it became this instead… and I am happy that the identity of the creature was ambiguous enough to make you question…
Reelika, I get a grittiness here that is hard to ignore. Nobody ever said getting real was going to be clean. Good writing!
Thank you so-so much and I agree, getting real is not clean nor pretty. Ama so happy you like it because I loved your entry too!
This is wonderful and the way I think nightmares are built… guilt is the worst.
Thank you, and I agree, guilt is the worst, but then again it’s a normal part of human life. We all have some…
And I loved your entry so much too!
Nice ond Reelika
Thanks for dropping by my blog
Much love
Thank you too.
The “creature” assumes that there are dark thoughts to be read, but honestly, if threatened like this, I think you would give up anything you had….
What if we befriend the creature? I think I gave mine all the thoughts I had over a glass of red and it now is suffering, somewhere in the corner… from trauma and a headache.
Every line, especially your last ~~~ going to linger in my psyche for a long while! An amazing piece of prose, amazing.
Awww. Thank you so-so much, you made me smile big with this comment.
tried to get to you previously but link was broken… came back this morning, all fixed… interesting take on the prompt… dark poetry… like where you went with this… we’ve all had these moments of being stuck there… listening to that voice and will do anything to get out… like jump a cliff… for some a bottle till it’s all gone … what can seem momentarily can last a lifetime… i love that we can indulge the creative thoughts ‘go with it’ ‘spilling your guts’ takes courage… but then there’s always that presence that wants to knock you down… dang that’s a nightmare… thanks for stopping by the pie shop always appreciate your feedback…
Thank you for the kind comment and Weird, I haven’t gotten any notifications about problems with my site.
Perhaps it was a BunnyCDN hiccup or something. Hopefully it won’t happen again soon. I will check the logs…
It has gone down before too for Europe and Asia while Americans were commenting lol… Can sometimes happen even if my non cached backend works well… Or some other areas… It’s unfortunately nothing I can really control.
Thank you for trying again.
What a great story Reelika, a dark and brooding tale full of inner tension. The last sentence clinched it for me.
Thank you for the comment.
I am happy you liked it.
Such a great, provocative piece of writing, like being privy to the other voice in someone’s head, and such a seamless inclusion of the prompt line! 🤩
Thank you so much!
