the Six Sentence Café & Bistro #9 | How Rude is This?
Every week, Denise, aka GirlieOnTheEdge, gives us a prompt word for a story that must be written in exactly six sentences. It has become one of my favorite ways to construct a story—or a poem—and, even more so, I have discovered that contributing to the collaborative world of the Six Sentence Café & Bistro walk-ins is far more fun than I ever imagined when I was first invited. Anyway, last week, someone asked in the comments under Denise's post where they could read all of the stories to catch up to the plot, and I thought that Denise's reply was incredibly helpful for that purpose... This week's entries can be found through the link-up, where you'll discover many talented authors sharing their work, so please do check it out. the Six Sentence Café & Bistro #9 "You need to write...
a POEM IN SIX #1 | Prompt Word: BALLOON
This poem is written in six sentences for the prompt word provided to us by Denise. All the other participants in the six sentence challenge with their stories and/or poetry can be found at this week's link-up. Balloon It's not a secret:my youth was violently torn from my hands—an innocence I mournedwhile sipping whiskey straight from the barrel, feigning adulthood. And yet,I was still a child holding onto a balloon, gripping the string with both hands until they bledwhile waiting for a parent that never came. A promiscuous believer, bargaining with every godwhose name I could pronouncefor better things to come. A broken recordreplaying the unfairness of my life, stuck on the whys. But in a fit of mind-altering rage and a will to live,I reached for the needle... Turns out, among all the...
Ten Thing of Thankful #13 | Writing, Poetry & Music
Showing my gratitude weekly has become something of an enjoyable routine for me. The Ten Thing of Thankful blog hop has this mood-lifting effect, both from trying to find your own ten grats' for the list and from reading everyone else's. You can find all the other participants or chose to link-up yourself at the link-up. Ten Thing of Thankful #13 First — I was very productive in the area of writing this week. And editing, too. I am proud of myself because I think I wrote some really cool things this time, and they're all a bit different. I removed one passage from the SSC&B story that described Aurelia's building. I actually liked it, but it slowed the story down a bit... For those...
Short Story | Melody Behind Her Voice
I tried to write a short story about love and its ties to memory —the little things that linger. It became one of the most difficult of goodbyes to write too. In this short story we follow a man torn between holding on and letting go. I think that this one is actually one of my strongest pieces in this corner of my blog as it sounds more like constructed story with a clear plot and less of a mumble of words. Short Story | Melody Behind Her Voice In this moment, he couldn't understand how the melody in her voice could have disappeared. He sat on the edge of her bed and realized that time, it had been cruel to her. It seemed as if it were just yesterday that they walked hand in hand on the riverbank, her golden locks flying in the wind and the scent of strawberries lingering in the air...
Poetry On the margins of the First Draft #14 | It Hurts
Part of my poetry collection, Margins of the First Draft—in some of the literature I read a lot as a teen, the theme of praying to a god or a mother was quite strong. I borrowed that idea; it wasn’t mine. The words are though. (Authors Note) It Hurts Oh God, oh Mother, I pray to thee Please Help me Poetry on the Margins #14 Aftermath Why does it seem, in times like these, that to loveis to die? I still thinkthat the ability to love another is a gift, and the ability to love once moreis even more of a gift. And to love for a decade, or two —is even a bigger gift. Love transforms us.It truly does. For love doesn't just come in “one size fits all” —and sometimes, it doeshurt a...

Ten Thing of Thankful #9 | Community, Home & Simple Joys
This week has been kind of busy with the summer solstice celebrations and my Tallinn mum's birthday on the 24th. Ten Thing of Thankful (TToT) bloghop is my way of reflecting on the week, showing gratitude for the little things that made it better, and reading the...
the Six Sentence Café & Bistro #4 | the Batgirl and Denise
This week it was not Aurelia who had gotten herself into a pickle but the author/narrator herself... We had summer solstice and a few birthdays to celebrate this week, and I genuinely left the story until the last minute because I somehow messed up the days. I thought...
Ten Thing of Thankful #8 | Aurelia, Coffee & Creative Joy
Ooh, it's Sunday, and I just remembered that the week is over and I should probably share my Ten Things of Thankful for the week, which has become kind of a ritual for me to show gratitude for the little things in life. Those little things matter because, all...
dVerse OLN #4 | Promiscuous Muse
I had trouble coming up with a poem for this week's dVerse Poets Open Link Night, so naturally I blamed the muse for the lack of ideas rather than the fact that I stayed up half the night and expected to write something coherent the next morning while running on three...
Six Sentence Story #23 | Prompt Word: DUST
This week I wrote two stories for the Six Sentence Story blog hop: one for the SSC&B collaborative world and this one here because I enjoy writing the mini stories with the restraint of six-sentences. It's cool and sometimes a bit... challenging. The host of the...
