As I was writing this weeks' installment and editing it I was listening to Rotting Christ—one of my favorite bands from Greece.
the Six Sentence Café & Bistro #12
Aurelia paced back and forth in her tiny one-room while gripping onto a flyer Denise, aka the Bartender, had handed her with the strength of—umm—well… as if this flyer itself had the might to attack her.
"I don't know if I can do this… they called me the poetry freak… even took my notebook and read it in front of the whole class… everyone agreed… they performed it better than me… everyone will laugh at me!"
"The whole frickin' café saw you half-naked… someone woo-hooed… it can't get more embarrassing…" a fraction of her own consciousness tried to calm her, but it sent her shuffling through the Post-it notes on her desk instead.
"I know it is here… a perfect poem… only a few lines… I can handle a few lines…"
"Well, a few lines don’t really show anything, use the freaky one… it has impact…"
You see… they are planning a poetry slam party back at the café—a function with the whole darn assortment: dim lights, music, poetry, and… umm… PEOPLE?!?

RC.. I know my taste in music is sublime.. in fact their “dying” was the one song in my youth that opened up a huge rabbit hole… And Sakis solo album… Weird how you can immediately recognise…

Don’t be afraid…freaky is what it’s all about. And it’s the perfect reason to try out new personal, costumes, and any number of shades to partially cancel yourself!

I’ve never been to a poetry slam, writing poetry is not my thing, though I do like reading it. They do say practice makes perfect, so practice, practice, practice and you will be fine. I love Leonard Cohen and Charles Bukowski.
Thank you, and yeah. Many performers do say that the anxiety will resolve itself after you just do it a few times.

Mutants at the Doctrine… Hahah. I think it could be fun… The more the merrier. Usually people who say that poetry is not their thing write the freakiest/funniest entries!
Don’t think there’s much more I can add in the way of encouragement for Aurelia except… yeah “the whole frickin’ Cafe saw” you half naked! And?? Hard part’s done, now comes the fun. Slam a poem down… you’re out on the town, Café’s a hoppin’ and the words are poppin’… Can’t think of a better place for Aurelia to let loose her poet self 😎

Thank you! I wilk try to do it a bit more naturally and less perfectionista as in the past… as I gave the reign of mixing it to my other half (he does it for living so). I will just record and choose the pieces and he will make it sound presentable and live like.
Tell Aurelia that it’s both terrifying and exhilarating in equal measure; like a first kiss; like a rollercoaster ride that you’re sure will be the death of you, and then you realise when it’s finished that you want to go again. And again.
And (whispering) you don’t need anyone’s approval, so don’t go looking for it. (hug)
Thank you. I hear that most people who actually perform LIVE LIVE say that the more you do it the more you wanna do it. I follow many slam poets on socials and they actually look so cool…
This time I will try to do the recording with one long read and a bit more natural, like a live lol… For the SSC&B. All the old sixes were actually put together from a few recordings… I spent hours on perfection… So that is also why I haven’t done it anymore because I want it to be perfect lol. If I cough or swallow too long… New recording… 😂

It is said that on stage the artist’s soul is there naked for all to see… you have a headstart from the rest… cruising half naked through the SSC&B 😆

I hear you about the perfectionism in what you present… but sometimes it is deautiful to allow imperfections take center stage.
Yeah I should never be left alone with my recordings haha. It’s a burn out if you surgically edit every line from say … 10-20 recordings to get one where you don’t show your accent or whatever. I have a lot of self-love to learn before I am able to be in a real live… I think …
And we will enjoy every minute of your poem.

Oh I actually removed the subscription button a few months ago because it was never used, thought will add it back when someone asks 😂.
I will see if I can add it back a bit later as I slept in a lot today, perhaps by next week… And if it works as intended as I have to use a separate mailer with this being a wordpress site…
