the Six Sentence Café & Bistro #9 | How Rude is This?

Every week, Denise, aka GirlieOnTheEdge , gives us a prompt word for a story that must be written in exactly six sentences. It has become one of my favorite ways to construct a story— or a poem —and, even more so, I have discovered that contributing to the collaborative world of the Six Sentence Café & Bistro walk-ins is far more fun than I ever imagined when I was first invited. Anyway, last week, someone asked in the comments under Denise’s post where they could read all of the stories to catch up to the plot, and I thought that Denise’s reply was incredibly helpful for that purpose… This week’s entries can be found through the link-up , where you’ll discover many talented authors sharing their work, so please do check it out. the Six Sentence Café & Bistro #9 “You need to…

dVerse POETICS #2 | I am a Great Lover Too

This was a rather interesting prompt from dVerse Poetics , asking us to write a poem inspired by The Great Lover by Rupert Brooke. As I had already been rather productive in the area of writing today, I thought there were worse ways to end the day than by writing a rather quick poem before diving into editing my other work for Thursday… UGH, editing… You can read all the other wonderful entries by many talented poets at the link-up. I am a Great Lover Too These I have loved: The long walks through chilly nights, the sleeping city, once so busy and loud, now the only sound: my feet hitting the pavement,so peaceful and quiet, smelling of summer. The serenity of befriending my solitude,my greatest companion: me, myself, and I.Got the whole apartment to myself for the day, reading, writing,…

Ten Thing of Thankful #14 | Music, Community & Behind the Scenes

This week has been very productive for me in the areas of blogging that I usually don’t talk about… But also outside of it… Writing down my ten things of grats’ has become one of my favorite parts of the week, as it reminds me—someone who is so prone to feeling melancholic—that there is always something to be grateful for… …by finding those ten things… and by going through what other bloggers have linked up to the hop . Ten Thing of Thankful #14 First—Music. This week, I discovered something completely new to me: a band called Mirar. This type of music—while, yes, it’s not for everyone—scratches my brain in all the right places. I’ve been hooked on it since yesterday, especially…

Short Story | Absence

This is another piece in the ‘Dead Poet’ “series” or something. It’s a short story inspired by the the six-sentence story of the same name that written for a prompt. In it, the protagonist falls deeply in love with a person through their poetry, only to remain alone for a lifetime. I hope I’ve captured the feeling of being in love with something unattainable well enough. Short Story | Absence I haven’t been able to write for so long that it feels as though the ability has been stolen from me. Any words I manage to put down feel dull and meaningless—especially compared to you, or the kind of love and admiration that has been, is, and always will be within me. I have carried it with pride, deep within my heart, shielded from the harsh realities of this world. Sometimes it feels like the…

Poetry On the margins of the First Draft #19 | Acceptance

Part of my poetry collection, Margins of the First Draft — where I write more poetry inspired by my old poetry. Poetry is weird, this piece I actually read many times and thought that wow, it’s like from a 19th century play or something. (Authors Note) Acceptance But mother, Can you not see He makes my heart sing My fingers dancing on the keys of an old Dusty Pianoforte, Out of tune And I keep hitting the wrong notes But my heart hums And perhaps, I am A Jester of love But love I do Poetry on the Margins #19 I do To love is courageous, and to admit it even more so. To feel —there’s something humanly imperfect, and yetbeautiful, in it. And to think that we don’t choosewho we love —love…

Poetry On the margins of the Second Draft #2 | Fragmented Poetry

I have wanted to do this for a while—try something like hybrid writing and mix poetry with reflections on the process itself. Sometimes it’s strange, as my mind tends to get inspired by lines from my old work, and then I write something new. The last Margins came to life in the same way. I read an old poem and then got the idea to add to it. While the emotions in my poetry may sometimes come from real things in life, I have this unusual process of abstraction and a very overactive imagination, which makes even my reflections a product of it. Fragmentation of the mind This is not poetry—this is the mess around it… a girl trying to write, getting distracted by her own thoughts… staring at the…

Ten Thing of Thankful #13 | Writing, Poetry & Music

Showing my gratitude weekly has become something of an enjoyable routine for me. The Ten Thing of Thankful blog hop has this mood-lifting effect, both from trying to find your own ten grats’ for the list and from reading everyone else’s. You can find all the other…

Six Sentence Story #25 | Prompt Word: PINCH

For this week’s Six Sentence Story—the prompt Denise provides us every week—I wrote a rather sad and dark piece of prose from the point of view of someone forced to care for a loved one struggling with addiction. As the subject may be distressing for some readers,…

dVerse PROSERY #1 | I Know What You Are

And this week I learned that even if I try to write prose, it doesn’t resemble conventional prose. Eugh. But the dVerse Prosery prompt gave me an idea, so I just went with the creative flow… thanks dVerse… for giving me the juices on this rainy day. All the other…
